Ok so the simple recipe- here ya go!
1/4 cup cultured buttermilk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
pour into a mason jar and shake for three minutes to completely mix
let sit out on the cabinet for 24 hours and let the magic happen!
Ok- so I should note that this recipe leaves a LOT of the buttermilk left over, but uses the entire container of heavy whipping cream- so either plan to make more sour cream, or use the buttermilk in another recipe so it doesn't go to waste.
These are our jars full of the mixture- just after shaking.
This is what the mixture looked like today when I opened it. There were bubbles on top and it looked a tiny bit frothy... honestly I started doubting the "magic"... but I grabbed a spoon and gave it a quick stir.
Yay!!!! Look it really worked!!! It's perfect and it's really good! I am so excited to use it!
So cost break down- well $2.38 made two full 16 oz jars of sour cream- so now we're back to $1.19 for 16oz... which is cheaper than what I pay usually! Plus you have the extra buttermilk left over to actually cut your cost more if you factor that in. I'm all about saving money and this does save a little- but seriously the taste is amazing!!!! It's so fresh and just yummy! So... go make some!
Oh, and my home made laundry soap post is coming up- just waiting for the first load to finish so I can give a good opinion. Aaaannnndddd.... back to sour cream- I'm making home made tortillas this week!!! I'll post a recipe and pictures of that too!
